The Elder Scrolls VI - An Arrow to the Feels
Gaming has come a long way from pixelated graphics, MIDI soundtracks and odd frame rates. We don't blow our cartridges to clear the dust that's preventing them from working; in fact, with the notable exceptions of the Nintendo DS and Switch, we don’t use cartridges anymore. This is because the electronics responsible for creating your favorite games has evolved; it has moved upwards and onwards to life – like graphics, orchestrated music and a smooth, crisp 60 FPS. One of the driving forces behind these industrial developments is us, the gamers. We’re insatiable, and technology has led us to instant gratification, which has spoiled us; we want what we want, and we want it… now.
Half – Life 3. Team Fortress 3. Borderlands 3. Portal 3. DOTA 3. (What is the deal with the gaming industry and avoiding the number 3, anyway?) These are a few examples of video games which gamers have been clamouring for, for years. That’s because these tentatively titled titles are preceded by games which are immensely popular, received overwhelmingly positive critical acclaim in their heyday, or both. One such game is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim; a game so popular to this day that I won’t insult you by giving you a background for it. Skyrim is legendary, which is why, from as early as 2012, we’ve been begging Bethesda Softworks for a sequel. Our pleas have now been answered!
TES VI has a lot of expectations to meet… I do not envy Bethesda Softworks.
The 10th of June 2018 will be remembered as the day on which this trailer was uploaded onto YouTube during the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2018 to tease and reveal The Elder Scrolls VI. Yes, the game that spawned the “FUS – RO – DAH!” and “Arrow to the knee” memes is finally, finally, receiving a sequel. TES VI is only in pre – production at this time; in fact, it may not even be published for any 8th generation console… but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that TES VI’s existence has been officially confirmed, it’s in development, and the fans are rightfully thrilled. In many fans’ minds, TES VI alone has made Bethesda Softworks the so – called ‘winner’ of E3 2018.
Skyrim has been re – released several times; a reality that Bethesda Softworks, in an unexpected demonstration of self – awareness, parodied in this video. It’s a good thing that yet another edition wasn’t being revealed at E3 2018, or anywhere else; I think that may have caused a mini – riot. I must say, though, that I hope this game isn’t anything less than the masterpiece everyone expects it to be. I have a theory when it comes to the sequels of games like those I mentioned previously; their developers are under so much pressure to top their own work, that they delay or don’t bother trying to. I’m glad that Bethesda has made an exception out of itself and thrown its sequel hat in the ring.
