Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to Launch in October
Ubisoft showcased the all-new installment of Assassin’s Creed at E3 2018 recently. Very fittingly titled, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, it was finally revealed to the world. The trailer of the game display a storyline set in Ancient Greece during the famous war between Sparta and Athens. It also revealed the new changes in gameplay and story people have been waiting for. Ubisoft has opened the pre-order books and the final game will be released on October 5, 2018, for MS Windows, PS4, and Xbox One.
The Assassin’s Creed franchise is all about an epic journey that takes the stealth element to a whole new level. From what we could tell, Odyssey is going to be refreshingly different while still staying close to home. The demo is an accurate representation of everything the developers are claiming.
Much like any other Assassin’s Creed game, this one is also a fictional history set in real time. This time, however, our “Assassin’s” adventures are set way back in the past, before Ancient Egypt, we’re talking Ancient Greece. Mainly right in the dead center of the struggle between Spartans and Athens, more commonly known as the Peloponnesian War!
While Odyssey is a prequel to the Assassin’s Creed Origins, this will be very different than what you expect from an Assassin’s Creed game. It is not necessarily a bad thing! There might not be a brotherhood and thus, no epic assassin’s storyline and the infamous hoods, however, there are many new and different elements that not only make it better in some aspects but also highly anticipated.
The first Assassin’s Creed changed the way developers produce games today. From visuals to sound to the controls and the storyline, every element was meticulously thought out and well planned. Odyssey is clearly a step ahead. At the Ubisoft E3 reveal, developers, not only previewed the official trailer, gamers also got an exclusive 20-minute gameplay and the world saw how different this Assassin’s Creed is to its prequels.
This time around, the action-adventure gives players an even more interactive and immersive experience. The captivating graphics animation is exactly what you’d expect from the franchise. The stunning visuals help make Ancient Greece come to life.

Ubisoft has released a “playable demo” of the game which is a little different from Assassin’s Creed gameplay. The action-adventure RPG style is reminiscent of Assassin’s Creed Origins. You get to make choices which mold how the end of the game will turn out and this is not just a gimmick. Odyssey will have multiple endings and players have reported getting a different outcome for every choice they made.
When you first play the game, you get to either play as Alexios or Kassandra. This is a pleasant change as all the previous Assassin’s Creeds had just the single main character. Ubisoft admitted to being “very proud” of creating Kassandra and the dynamic element she offers in the game. Attendees responded positively and we think this is a great way to change up the franchise as well. Other than this, the fact that players get to choose how to respond during cutscenes makes the entire Assassin’s Creed experience more interactive and immersive.
The fighting sequences have changed. You still have to be stealthy to remain hidden but the way the characters move has become more graceful and powerful than ever. Take Leonidas's spear, for instance, developers state this new weapon offers a better stealth, damage, and range to fight off enemies. This goes to show that Odyssey will be a stealth game offering brutal attacks as well. We cannot wait to see what other weapons Odyssey has to offer.
The changed Third Person angle makes for more action and liberating combat. Each hit has that satisfaction you look for. The main menu consists of 4 main parts: Map, Quests, Inventory, and Abilities. In the abilities menu, you can choose to upgrade your Hunter, Warrior and Assassin abilities. You are also able to assign specific class abilities depending on what you want.
The graphics and sound acting truly make Odyssey feel more real than previous iterations. From the colors to the details used in every design aspect of the game, this is a truly stunning masterpiece. The voice acting in this Assassin’s Creed game is more on point. Every dialogue and cut scene have a purpose and are meaningful. The characters you come across during the game are all unique and serve a purpose to the game. None of them feel forced or out of place.
The gameplay clearly shows the time and efforts developers have spent on this game. From purposeful dialogues, great visuals, attention to detail, you will feel the love that went into making this game.
This is a truly stunning masterpiece.
If you purchase this game expecting an epic stealth adventure with the cool hoods you’re used to, you might have to lower your expectations. While this game is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air, it is very different in almost every aspect of the old Assassin’s Creed games. Though some critics may argue that the elements of a true Assassin’s Creed game are lost, we think this is still worth a shot and you should not be so quick to dismiss it just yet.
Odyssey makes for an excellent game under the Assassin’s Creed umbrella. We feel Ubisoft is most certainly going somewhere with the new style and gameplay and we cannot wait to get our hands on this game. Surely, when developers chose to set a new tone in Origins, they have something up their sleeve.
